Light-up clothes have been possible roughly since the invention of the LED light in the 1960s, but somehow the most popular light-up clothing product to date tends to be kids’ shoes. Why should they have all the fun? I believe that light-up clothing has a place for everyone in many different contexts. Everyone should have the chance to shine.
Light-up clothes are given their effect by LED and fiber optic lights. Currently, those two options are the only safe and practical ways to weave lights into fabric, but the possibilities of how they can enhance any regular clothing item is limitless.
There are many creative iterations of light-up clothes including shirts, ties, dresses, and even masks. Due to this variety, I believe light-up clothing can be used during the day and at night in a multitude of different contexts.
The following images are examples of fantastic light-up pieces that can immediately brighten up any regular outfit.
Fiber Optic Women’s Rave Tank Top from tryptixfashion.com
Although the description of the tank includes the word “rave”, I want to see this top more frequently in more casual climates. Ideally it could be seen sparkling at the local dive bar, or a house party. Either way it belongs out lighting up the streets of CU.
Dare I be so bold as to suggest the coffee shop in the morning? Imagine how much more fun your morning coffee run could be, especially if you’re the kind of person who wants to be remembered when you arrive somewhere (I know I am).
Taking clothing traditionally worn at one place and introducing it to another is a bold way to be unique and start a new trend, as well as liven up the atmosphere wherever you go.
Sound Activated Light Up Tie from tryptixfashion.com
This tie being sound activated is perhaps its best quality, which is saying quite a bit when you look at the impressive possible light displays it has. Perfect for going to a concert or anywhere music is found, the tie will flash according to the beat of the music, so you can bring the party wherever you happen to be.
If you’re feeling inspired to make a statement, wear it to any black tie formal event and watch people’s faces when music starts playing. Other locations to try it out for the first time could include your friend’s birthday party or even that job interview you have coming up.
LED Shoes Women White Low Top from brightledshoes.com
Lastly, the classic light-up shoe. Even though it’s often attributed to kids’ fashion, light up shoes are also made for adults and can be worn any number of places just like the rest of the options mentioned previously.
Combined with the aforementioned top and tie, they would make for a striking outfit, especially with the unlimited color combinations that can be changed with the press of a button, since most of these products come with a remote.
I personally would wear them to class so that I have an automatic conversation starter to make new friends and get through any awkward icebreaker, as well as giving my professors no choice but to remember me.
